About Flomina Children’s Home

Flomina Children’s Home, Kayole,Nairobi

About us

Flomina Children’s Home, located in Nairobi, Kenya, was established on 30th August 2002 to provide care and support for orphans, destitute, and abandoned children. Founded to address the growing need for a safe haven for vulnerable children in the Kayole slums and surrounding areas, the home takes in children who have been lost, orphaned, abused, or abandoned. Many of the children are referred by local hospitals, including Mama Lucy Hospital and Kenyatta Hospital, as well as by the police and child welfare services.

Since its inception, Flomina Children’s Home has been a refuge for hundreds of children. Over the years, it has sheltered, educated, and nurtured more than 400 children, giving them a place to call home and providing opportunities for a brighter future. Today, the home cares for 78 children, including those living with disabilities, and continues to focus on its mission of offering these vulnerable children a stable environment filled with love, care, and education.

The home relies heavily on the generosity of friends, well-wishers, and volunteers. Donations—whether financial, material, or through volunteer work—play a crucial role in ensuring that the children receive the care they need. Flomina thrives on the spirit of community and compassion, and it is through this collective effort that the home continues to meet the daily needs of the children. The support of donors and volunteers remains the cornerstone of its ability to provide a better future for these young lives.

Flomina Children’s Home has also played a significant role in child welfare and rehabilitation within the community, standing as more than just a shelter. It is a testament to faith, vision, and perseverance, and its story began with an extraordinary experience. As a young man, the current Deputy Director, Jeremiah Muthama, was working on his uncle’s land when he heard the cries of a baby coming from nearby bushes. Despite searching, he found nothing, and his family dismissed it as a figment of his imagination.

However, this event was not a coincidence—it was the first sign of a greater calling.

In 2001, the home’s Director, Bishop Dr. Florence Mutinda, received a vision that confirmed what Jeremiah had experienced. This revelation called them into action, leading them to care for two lost children. From this humble beginning, Flomina Children’s Home was officially registered in 2004, with a commitment to providing a safe and loving environment for orphans and abandoned children in Kayole and beyond.

For over 22 years, Flomina has been a beacon of hope, offering not just shelter but also education, love, and a sense of family to the most vulnerable. The home’s mission is deeply rooted in the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow and thrive. With the guidance and care they receive at Flomina, many of these children have risen above their difficult circumstances to achieve success. The home takes great pride in its “giants”—those who have gone on to build successful lives both in Kenya and abroad, with former residents now living in countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Many have become professionals, including two Kenya Police officers and one member of the Kenya Army, showcasing the Transformative power of love, faith, and community support.

Flomina Children’s Home is not only committed to corporate social responsibility but also rooted in the spiritual values and experiences passed down through generations. As a non-profit, charitable organization, it works with the local community to ensure the holistic development of children in difficult circumstances. Through this collaboration,

Flomina continues to give hope to the children it serves, nurturing their potential and empowering them to create brighter futures for themselves and others.
